Senior Generalist Artist

Hutch is looking for a super talented and adaptable generalist artist to join us in Hutch’s London studio. The role has an emphasis on strong 3D and texturing skills. The successful candidate will be highly skilled across a broad range of digital art skills, ideally, drawing on a rich experience based in console and mobile gaming.
 
Primary skills:
 
Great 3D skills: Hard surface modelling, vehicles, environment objects and landscape.
Texturing skills with an ability to create great textures without the use of photo source
Tidy, clean and organised work
An ability to be aesthetically adaptable and change between a range styles according to the needs of the product.
Lighting: A good understanding of the principles and experience either in-game or pre-rendered.
Surfaces shaders: Can demonstrate good use of native shaders.
An understanding of authoring content for real-time rendering.
To be proficient with the necessary software and tools to perform the role
 

Secondary Skills:
 
This role can, to some extent, be adapt to the strengths of the candidate, depending on how the skills dovetail with the existing team.
 
So we’ll be looking for a selection of about HALF the following…
Marketing Art: Creation of high definition marketing artworks for print and screen. Contributing to the marketing pipeline. Collaborating with the marketing, analytics team and creative stakeholders to shape effective marketing assets.
 
Pre-visualisation: Preliminary and exploratory work including use of illustrations and basic 3D to explore composition.
 
Animatics: Have a reasonable grasp of animation to produce animatics and animated previz.
Game style setting: Work with the team, marketing and creative stake holders to help establish the right style and quality for the product’s audience.

  • Video editing
  • Motion graphics

Graduate Game Programmer

We are looking for a Graduate Gameplay Programmer to join the team in our Central London studio. Hutch is a dynamic games studio, founded on a wealth of traditional game development experience, blending a bunch of people who are talented and passionate about making the best free to play games.
 
The successful candidate will be working on gameplay across multiple platforms (iOS, Android, Windows Phone, tvOS, Amazon) using the Unity engine. Working very closely with designers, artists, other programmers and the technical director to solve the many challenges involved in creating a high quality and performant user experience in the most efficient manner possible to release in the desired time frame.
 
This is a permanent full-time role. It is based in Old Street, London with the option to work remotely 2 days per week at the discretion of the business, in addition to a very competitive salary package.
 
Responsibilities:
 
Implementing all areas of the game application, including (but not exclusively) gameplay, player controls, game simulation behaviours, AI, meta-game behaviour, user interface, visual effects, audio effects, analytics hooks, social hooks and in-game purchasing.
 
Designing and writing code in a maintainable and easily updatable manner, ready for post-launch updates in response to customer feedback.
 
Writing tools where necessary to empower artists and designers to make the game as much as possible.
Be responsible for the performance of the game, both frame-rate and memory usage.
Be actively involved in design discussions.
 
Requirements:
 
Bachelor degree or higher in Computer Science, Game Development, Maths or Physics, or equivalent industry learning.
 
Strong technical design and code skills, preferably in C# though strong C++ experience is fine, knowledge of debugging techniques and strong 3D maths and analytical skills.
Awareness of game concepts including rendering, physics, AI, UI, audio, input, networking, VFX and asset/data management.
 
One or more completed game projects, either individual or group-based, demonstrating the above areas.
A passion for making mobile action games and exploring new ways of making games.

Embedded Tester

Based in Brighton and reporting to the QA Project Lead, the embedded tester will be working within a small mobile games development team in an agile environment.  They should be a good communicator with excellent people skills and strong technical skills.  The candidate would be expected to own the testing for significant aspects of one of our mobile projects, completing in-house testing and regression.  The candidate must be self-motivated and well organised and have a real passion for QA.

 

Key responsibilities:
 

  • Design and execute functional and regression test cases (Manual Testing)
  • Coordinating with an external test team
  • Working embedded within the development team completing in-house testing and bug regression
  • Attending and contributing to sprint planning, retrospectives, and the daily scrums
  • Reporting on build status
  • Tracking bug progress / database management
  • Implementation of bug prevention methods
  • Pro-active risk analysis to identify key areas of testing
  • Customer support

 

Requirements:

 

Essential

  • Experience working in an Agile development/testing environment
  • Mobile application testing experience (iOS/Android) – functional & non-functional
  • Knowledge of the games development lifecycle
  • Experience with JIRA or other bug tracking systems
  • Good attention to detail
  • Calm under pressure with a proactive attitude
  • Excellent communicator

 

Desirable

  • Avid gamer (particularly F2P mobile games)
  • An interest in Mobile Test Automation.
  • Experience working within a games studio.

 

Experience:
 

  • Minimum 2 years experience in either games industry QA or in software testing.

Senior Product Manager

We are looking for a Senior Product Manager to join the team. The successful candidate will be reporting directly to the Design Director, the Senior Product Manager will work across projects forming a crucial part of the studio’s creative setup. The Senior Designer will use their experience of virtual goods based business models and strong monetisation intuition to develop new features and systems for our mobile titles that will improve monetisation, engagement, retention and virality.

 

Your Responsibilities:
 

  • Support the product vision through the design of large-scale game systems that maximize engagement, revenue, and retention.
  • Use data driven insight to improve results and share best practices.
  • Create Theme, Game Mechanics, Monetization, and Social Features into an integrated product.
  • Play all competitive games, understand their successes and failures, to help ensure our games are the best ones on the market.
  • Run play tests and use the team’s feedback for the continual improvement our games.
  • Work with the developers to define, plan, and iterate game features to a high quality standard.
  • Create design specifications that effectively communicate game design requirements to all team members.
  • Analyze game metrics/feedback and make design decisions based upon them.
  • Have broad knowledge in various aspects of game design such as system design, narration, economy balance, UI design, etc.

 

Skills and Requirements:
 

  • Must be extremely organized in the game design workflow from initial concept to final release and post-release support.
  • Strong analytical abilities and are able to analyze game-play data to improve the game as necessary.
  • Proven experience and success designing mobile-based online and social game feature-sets.
  • Have solid experience and success with games based on a virtual-goods business model with deep monetization intuition and understanding.
  • A love of startups and a desire to be part of a small team that achieves its vision quickly.
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical ability.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills.

 

Experience with an established company is great but we’d also be interested to hear from you if you’ve got a proven track record outside of the corporate world.
