Hutch London - Studio Spotlight!

Company

Did you know... we've got Hutch studios in England, Scotland and Canada! Each studio has its own unique personality, whilst also sharing common goals of putting Hutchies first and creating lovely places to work. In a series of blog posts we're going to give you a tour of all three offices, and first up it's London! Here's George, our Senior Studio Coordinator to spill the beans on what it's like to work here, plus the best places to go for lunch!

Tell us a bit about your role…

Most days are different, what with the hybrid work schedule meaning alternating WFH/WFO days, which affords me the time and bandwidth to tackle the various tasks on my list. On any given day there are the routine reactionary requirements such as taking deliveries, greeting guests and resolving requests and issues brought to my attention by the team, but also opportunities to work on our CSR and Sustainability projects, planning team culture events and the nitty gritty of facilities management.

How many people in the London studio?

There are approximately 140 Hutchies in the London studio, with our proverbial fingers in every pie on Hutch’s shelf. The core of all our game teams are, at present, housed in the London studio, comprised of Leads & Producers, Artists of every acronym and prefix (UI, UX, 3D, Technical, Marketing), Engineers both server and client (I always found it weird that they sound like a dining experience) and QA.

We've also got the Customer Support team here, plus Marketing in all its forms from ideas people and long term planners, to Social and Community Managers, and Analysts. Our essential ancillary teams are mostly based here too, Legal and Licensing, Finance and Recruitment, People and Studios Management.

The Office Location

How would you describe where the office is? What’s the surrounding area like?

At the culture crossroads where city slickers and Shoreditch house socialites and rockabilly bikers and yogis and every kind of [insert fashion here]-core scene meets. All a 5 minute or so walk from Liverpool Street, Old Street and Shoreditch High Street stations.

What’s good about being based where you are?

Great pubs for a wind down after work and tons of activities to get stuck into for a team trip - bubble tea bars, pool bars and ping pong bars and darts bars, karaoke bars and dancing bars; Shoreditch is your oyster. And there’s a bar for those too.

Any favourite places people like to get lunch from?

You’re spoilt for choice. Clifton Street alone has a culinary cornucopia of food stalls (the peanut chicken is a personal favourite of mine from here). Rivington Street, Spitalfields, Whitecross Street, Brick Lane and nearly every road in every direction for an acceptable 10 minutes stroll has something for everyone.

The Office Personality

What 3 words best describe the office vibe?

Vibey Community (of) Individuals

How is your office similar to the other Hutch offices?

Every Hutch office is just as inclusive, welcoming and, in their own way, scenic as the next.

How is your office different to the other Hutch offices?

Being in the heart of a bustling, multicultural, post-hipster Shoreditch is a fairly far removed experience from the romantically remote, “Into the Wild”, Nova Scotian life or the equally coastal albeit  less verdant, booming gaming hub of Dundee.

What 3 items could your office not live without (aside from all the tech you need)?

Eachother, coffee, ping pong

What’s the trickiest part of managing the office?

The constant battle with an ageing, creaking and groaning building and the maintenance of personal equipment.

What’s the most fun part of managing the office?

The constant battle with an ageing, cr… only joking. Office refurbs are great fun, redesigning the space to meet the ever changing needs of a living, breathing organisation.

Sound like the kind of place you'd like to work? We'd love to hear from you! Check out our current vacancies here.
